MOFs catalyzed direct gas-phase reactions for the conversion of C1 compounds

Description of the granted funding

The reduction of greenhouse gas (CO2, CH4) emissions is one of the major challenges facing the humanity today. This project aims to develop technologies that enable capture and utilization of the C1 compounds directly from the gas phase applying metal-organic-framework (MOF) catalyzed conversion. MOFs have indicated great potential for CO2 gas-phase conversion compared to the traditional catalysts. However, fundamental studies in relation to the gas-phase reactions, catalytic turnover efficiency, thermostability, stability in humid conditions and efficiency at near ambient pressures are missing. New aerosol-based technologies for direct gas-phase carbon capture and utilization could provide groundbreaking based solutions for reduction of the industrial CO2 emissions that are one of the major CO2 emission sources in Finland.
