Music education, professionalism, and eco-politics (EcoPolitics)
Description of the granted funding
While Education for Sustainable Development has become a central concern globally, there is little understanding of its implications in music education. Music education, professionalism, and eco-politics project takes up the challenge by positioning music teacher educators on three continents as proactive agents in exploring how an eco-political orientation could shift the conduct, aims, and values of music education as a profession in an era of uncertainties, eco-crises, and ‘wicked problems'. With systems thinking and Soft Systems Methodology as guiding approaches, this transdisciplinary project creates a future-focused, socially engaged ecological discourse of music education professionalism. The research team in collaboration with Monash University (Australia), North-West University (South Africa), and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (Austria) is based at the Sibelius Academy, the University of the Arts Helsinki.
