Optimal Design of Magnetostrictive Energy Harvesting Dynamic Vibration Absorber

Description of the granted funding

Dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) is one of the most popular devices to suppress vibration of machines and constructions. So far, the dissipated vibrational energy has been wasted as heat. However, this energy could also be used to power sensors and data collection devices for rapidly increasing internet of things (IoT). In this work, a new type of a magnetostrictive energy harvesting DVA is proposed, making it possible to capture and utilize the vibration energy to replace primary batteries in low-power electronics, and thus increasing the environmental friendliness of IoT. The proposed electromechanical device is optimized theoretically and its applicability is proven through experiments.
