Sporadic and steered transformation of food purchases: impacts on people, planet and prosperity

Acronym

LC PEPPER

Description of the granted funding

In this project we will identify changes in population food purchase patterns and effective ways to steer them towards UN Sustainable Development Goals on individual and population levels. Specifically, we will address the impact of COVID-19 lockdown measures, policies and personalized feedback, via mobile interface, on the healthiness and carbon footprint of food purchases. One of our central aims is to understand what is the role of socio-demographic position and food pricing in achieving a food basket of good nutritional quality and of lower carbon footprint to find means for a socially equitable sustainability transition in food consumption. Our interdisciplinary research team studies these phenomena by novel analyses of individual-level loyalty card data spanning over an eight-year period, at the same time developing new viewpoints and methods to monitor and understand human nutrition.
