FINeFI

This multidisciplinary project uses artificial intelligence and aims to analyze and create an electronic frailty index (eFI) in individuals aged 50 years and older. Nationally representative Finnish cohorts that have been linked to health and social care registers will be used to develop and validate the eFI. We will use data from several cohort studies and also patient record data from two hospital districts. The Rockwood FI and all necessary outcome information are available for validation and comparative performance assessment of the eFI. Electronic health record data will be applied in testing the constructed eFI for its predictiveness of adverse outcomes in younger (aged 50-65) and older (aged >65) individuals. We provide new information on how the eFI predicts adverse outcomes, also among younger individuals. This study will help target feasible prevention strategies to individuals who are at the risk of frailty as well as to promote better health and ultimately healthy aging.
