Just transition: tackling inequalities on the way to a sustainable, healthy and climate-neutral food system (Just food)
Acronym
Just food
Description of the granted funding
Just food develops interdisciplinary approaches to foster just transition towards more sustainable food system. We develop principles and criteria for just transition drawing attention to multiple dimensions of justice requiring attention in climate mitigation. We assess transition pathways, that describe the plausible ways by which the Finnish food system can mitigate the climate impacts. The pathways go beyond the conventional mitigation assessment by integrating the assessment of distributive impacts to agriculture, nutrition and other environmental impacts to the assessment. According to the results, changing both diets and agricultural land use are the most effective ways to mitigate emissions, which require, however, coordinated policy measures to support the just transition. The transdisciplinary case studies engage the affected groups to the deliberation of climate actions.
