New-generation mid-infrared ultrafast fiber lasers

Description of the granted funding

Ultrafast lasers are a crucial component in the portfolio of leading laser manufacturers. In particular, mid-infrared ultrafast fiber lasers are of great significance for various growing and emerging applications, such as sensing, imaging, medicine, telecom, and industrial material processing. This ambitious and multidisciplinary project aims to actively combine the unique expertise of nanotechnologies in Aalto University, and optical fiber and laser technologies in nLight Oy, by developing long-awaited high-performance mid-infrared ultrafast fiber lasers. The academic and industrial partners will also jointly promote the industrial applications of such lasers (such as health, wellbeing, and data interconnection) with high academic, industrial and societal impacts.
