Centre of Excellence of Inverse Modelling and Imaging
Description of the granted funding
The Centre of Excellence of Inverse Modelling and Imaging studies problems where the unknown variables of mathematical models are to be solved by indirect measurements. Our research spans all the way from theoretical questions in mathematics and physics to concrete and numerical applications in the numerous situations where indirect measurement is necessary. Interdisciplinary collaboration within our Centre of Excellence enables the quick application of mathematical results and tools to practical problems, and has led to breakthroughs in e.g. medical imaging, geophysics, and atmospheric sciences. Our mathematical focus is on geometry, nonlinear partial differential equations, and modelling uncertainty. Our applied research finds new and fruitful mathematical research problems and applies our theoretical insights in practice.
