Ticks and the City: Mechanisms driving ticks and tick-borne pathogens in urban nature

Description of the granted funding

Tick-borne pathogens are posing an increasing risk to humans. Anthropogenic environmental changes are having many effects on vertebrate hosts and ticks, which have influence on the spread of the pathogens in nature. This project will study the mechanisms that affect the circulation of tick-borne pathogens in urban and rural environment. Especially this project aims to resolve the role of urban associated host species in the dynamics of ticks and tick-borne pathogens, and identify how these factors are translated into human Lyme Borreliosis risk.
