HydroXgel

Description of the granted funding

This project will establish a new biomedical hydrogel and bioink platform called HydroXgel, which will become the most versatile, easy-to-use and reliable bioink to date but will have multiple advanced applications beyond. A bioink is understood as a hydrogel to be combined with living cells, which can be used for 3D printing of artificial tissue or organ constructs. We will establish and validate reproducible scale-up synthesis and develop a series of hybrid bioinks to reflect the complexity and variety of tissues in the human body. Biobased bioinks are currently the most prevalent commercial products, but these are plagued by poor printability and/or high costs. Researchers world-wide need a solution such as the HydroXgel platform, with its unique combination of traits including superior printability, versatility, cytocompatibility and modularity. Since our solution is a synthetic hydrogel, scalability is easy which enables us to have a higher profit margin than competitors. In addition, beyond bioinks, our hydrogel platform is ideally positioned for other products in the biomedical sector such as drug delivery and cosmetics.
