Surveillance of antimicrobial resistant bacteria in northern aquatic systems

Description of the granted funding

Aquatic environments serve as reservoirs for AMR bacteria mainly through direct point source pollution such as wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). This study aims to investigate the occurrence of antimicrobial resistant bacteria present in aquatic systems, which include point sources from wastewater treatment plants and the surrounding receiving water bodies of the effluents, in the northern region of Finland. The results of this study will serve as a baseline information for future AMR studies
