Timescales of recovery from eutrophication in Finnish lakes: modelling sedimentary phosphorus biogeochemistry.
Description of the granted funding
This project focuses on sedimentary phosphorus (P) biogeochemistry in eutrophic lakes in southern Finland. Using a combination of field investigations, statistical analysis and numerical modelling, we investigate the mechanisms that control internal P loading and thus regulate the trophic states. We predict the changes in P dynamics of the study lakes on timescales from decades to centuries, from recent past to near future, in order to promote sustainability of lake management practices.
