Thermal management for real zero-emission vehicles
Description of the granted funding
Project THERMAZEV focuses on novel technologies for integrated thermal management or zero-emission vehicles especially in cold conditions, aiming at minimum total energy use in zero-emission vehicles and maximising reliability and service. Key technologies to replace diesel heaters are thermal storages, fuel cells, next generation batteries as well as metal hydrides. Systems management and control in real operation scenarios at vehicular level need to be developed. The expected results will provide new alternatives for real zero emission vehicle thermal management. The results will also enable research on new solutions for energy management at vehicular system level and to combine these with operational scenarios. The alternatives provided will reduce the demand for battery capacity and zero the local emissions from the buses, thus improving the driving range of the electric vehicles while at the same time improving reliability and productivity of the vehicles, and reducing emissions.
