MENOPAUSING: EXPLORING DIVERSITY, AWARENESS AND ACTIVISM
Description of the granted funding
This project introduces a new perspective on menopausing, one of the most divisive, stereotyped, and silenced gendered experiences worldwide. Existing approaches tend to view the menopausing process as a medical and psychological issue. However, in a world with one billion menopausing people, activism and calls for social research are gaining traction. As a multidisciplinary team, we will investigate the power of small communities and networks to raise awareness of the diversity of the menopausing experiences. The project will focus on researching ethnic and racialised minorities, migrants, queers and activists based in the UK, encompassing also widespread activism and less-studied networks and spaces in Finland and the Baltic countries. This project employs innovative ethnographic and big data methods to demonstrate how the impacts of networked activism spread across time, scales, and spaces.
