Children's Transformative Agency and Emerging Technologies for Social Good
Description of the granted funding
TAKEOVER renews Child Computer Interaction research by introducing the notion of transformative agency as a novel research agenda and by exploring how to foster it in relation to emerging technologies and societal challenges through the use of critical and futures design methods. TAKEOVER invites children to critically analyze emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and social robots but also to consider their potential to address societal challenges such as climate change, gender equality and bullying, harassment and discrimination. TAKEOVER entails three intertwined streams of research 1) development of theoretical framework on children's transformative agency emergence and evolution; 2) long-term design projects fostering children's transformative agency through critical and futures design methods; and 3) in-depth empirical studies of the emergence and evolution of children's transformative agency during and after the design projects.
