New structures and multiscale mathematical modelling in production of industrial chemicals

Description of the granted funding

The chemical industry undergoes a rapid and dramatic revolution, aiming to replace fossil resources with renewble raw materials. On of the big changes in technology is going to be in the synthesis of ammonia starting from green hydrogen made by electrolysis of water. This approach opens completely new perspectives for a flexible use of ammonia in the preparation of valuable chemicals such as amines. In future factories, it will be possible to synthetize ammonia from hydrogen and nitrogen in efficient continuous reactor systems and let ammonia to react directly to valuable products. Development of new technolology based on 3D printed catalyst structures and solid foams to enhance these chemical processes is the key topic of this research project.
