Aligning Corporate Interests with National Goals: A Micro-historical Analysis of Firm Behavior under Industrial Policy
Description of the granted funding
This research project at the Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics focuses on the recent revival of state support for industries, a global trend with governments investing over a trillion dollars. This policy trend, mainly aimed at mitigating climate change and boosting economic competitiveness, brings both benefits and challenges for nations and businesses. A key concern is that while state-supported technologies could help combat climate change, these state interventions may impede the market forces, disadvantaging firms from smaller countries with fewer resources than their larger counterparts. The study employs historical methods and data to examine the political and economic behavior of companies in past Finnish policy practices. This research, significant for both society and science, aims to devise practical guidelines for Finland, other nations, and business practitioners, by drawing on the lessons from the past to maximize societal gains and minimize risks.
