Investigating the effects of a multilevel public transport and active travel intervention on children's and their families' travel mode choices (CHIFAM TRAVEL).
Description of the granted funding
We investigate in a city-level cluster-randomized controlled trial, whether a multilevel public transport and active travel intervention (including bike parking construction next to public transport stops, school-based cycling challenge and family-based information campaign) change children's and their families' travel mode choices towards more active and sustainable travel and change children's moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. This project will for the first time provide empirical longitudinal evidence on multilevel effects on children's and their families' active travel behavior, travel mode choice and device-measured physical activity levels during a major change in children's everyday travel context and provides highly relevant knowledge to transport and urban planning and public health policy making.
