Human-Centered AI for Computer Science Education: Advanced Student Modeling and Tailored Large Language Models for Personalized Learning

Description of the granted funding

This project focuses on developing personalized learning systems using large language models (LLMs) to assist novice programmers. Personalized learning has been shown to improve student outcomes in various fields, but applying it to programming is challenging due to the complexity and unstructured nature of programming data. By leveraging LLMs trained on programming and natural language data, the project aims to create adaptive systems that offer personalized feedback, remedial examples, and next-step problem-solving guidance. The system will track students' progress and tailor support based on their knowledge and needs. Integrated into existing freely available educational platforms and courses, the AI-driven system will support diverse learners. Overall, the project will improve student programming skills and expand access to high-quality education.
