Exploring the Variability of Road Capacity and its Impact on Traffic Congestion

Description of the granted funding

In this research project, an examination of past and current traffic behavior is conducted in order to gain insight into the changes in traffic behavior and how these changes affect road capacity as a result of the increasing prevalence of vehicles equipped with driving aids and changing road conditions. The information gathered from this study will be utilized to propose modifications to the existing policies and to develop novel solutions for the safe and sustainable utilization of roads in light of the impending reality of autonomous vehicles. The primary method used in this study is convex quantile regression with special adaptations being developed to suit the needs of traffic analysis.
