Next generation molecular sensing
Description of the granted funding
Biosensors are key technologies in healthcare and analytical sciences. The ability to detect low concentration analytes accurately is vital for developing effective intervention strategies and advanced bioanalytical instruments. In this project we address the pinnacle question in the field of biosensors: single molecule sensing. We will develop novel technologies for ultrasensitive detection of biomolecules. We will mimic cellular signal transduction strategies using nanoengineered sensors. Specifically, we will develop artificial cell-based biosensors and single protein resolution Raman sensors. As a significant leap from the current state-of-the-art, the proposed biosensors will be used for single-cell proteomics and diagnostic devices for low-abundance analytes.
