Temporal and spatial differences in mercury bioaccumulation in fish and biomagnification in food webs of boreal and subarctic lakes.

Temporal and spatial differences in mercury bioaccumulation in fish and biomagnification in food webs of boreal and subarctic lakes.

Description of the granted funding

Northern lake environments change throughout the year, where the warm open-water season and subsequent ice-covered season dominate natural cycles. Mercury dynamics in lake fish and food webs may fluctuate throughout the year and be influenced by climate change and land use intensification along landscape gradients, which may increase the risk to consumers. The aim of this PhD project is to identify temporal and spatial differences in mercury dynamics in boreal and subarctic lake food webs.
