Pesticide migration and dissipation in groundwater environment

Pesticide migration and dissipation in groundwater environment

Description of the granted funding

Trace levels of pesticides in groundwater pose significant environmental and public health risks. In the Laune aquifer in Lahti, Finland, atrazine concentrations in groundwater have remained relatively steady for over 20 years despite the sales ban in 1992, due to the slow release from subsoil deposits into the groundwater. The study aims to advance the understanding and mitigation of pesticide contamination in the groundwater through modelling and altering water flow and aeration.
