Exploring New Dimensions of Game Cultural Agency: From Marginalisation to Empowerment (ENDGAME)

Description of the granted funding

The ENDGAME project will create a new theoretical model for game cultural agency that will demonstrate how individuals gain access to and are able to operate in game cultural environments in an impactful manner – or are excluded or limited in their capacity – based on their individual backgrounds. This investigation of game cultural agency is conducted on three levels: environments, empowerment, and experiences. ENDGAME aims to reform current scientific understanding of game cultural agency, forms of game cultural participation, cultural construction of gaming expertise and competence, and the impact of intersectional identity positions and local cultural and national contexts in these. In addition to future research, ENDGAME's results can be applied in e.g. game companies, organisations, events, and communities, as well as in game educational contexts such as cultural organisations, formal education, and youth work, to include and empower those currently marginalised in game culture.
