Redefining Finnish learning to learn assessment: a shift to evidence-centered design in assessment

Description of the granted funding

This research aims to revolutionize educational assessment by integrating Evidence-Centered Design (ECD) and Bayesian network frameworks into the Finnish national learning-to-learn (L2L) competence assessment. The project begins with a comprehensive literature review to guide the development of an ECD framework for digital, scenario-based L2L skill assessments. Empirical data collected from 1,400 eighth and ninth-grade students will form the basis of the analysis. Bayesian methodologies will be applied to estimate the probability of correct responses, enabling robust and nuanced data interpretation. The ultimate goal is to establish a national standard for L2L proficiency, providing students with immediate feedback and offering educators and policymakers actionable insights to drive educational advancements. The outcomes are expected to serve as a crucial resource for educational decision-makers in designing innovative assessment tools and fostering critical learning skills.
