AI that Cares for Aging at Home (Care@Home)

Description of the granted funding

This research project aims to develop a novel contactless monitoring ecosystem for elderly individuals that surpasses existing limitations by leveraging the potential of Nearable & Airable Smart Sensors (NASS). It expands the scope of monitoring to include a wider range of poses, vital signs, and daily activities—without intrusive wearables. By integrating NASS with AI and TinyML edge processing, the system enables real-time, privacy-preserving data analysis while minimizing transmission. An ethical framework ensures secure local processing and responsible data sharing with care professionals. International collaboration will test the system in diverse clinical settings to validate its effectiveness and user acceptance. The goal: enhance elderly well-being, support caregivers, and enable responsive, dignified home-based care.
