Finnish Center of Excellence on Quantum Materials (QMAT)

Acronym

QMAT

Description of the granted funding

The goal of the Center of Excellence on Quantum Materials is to lay a solid foundation for future materials technologies. The present information society builds on our ability to customise the properties of materials into the desired form. This ability is based on our understanding of the microscopic structure of materials. The understanding is however far from complete, as we cannot properly control the quantum properties of matter such as quantum entanglement. The Center will harness the recent technological advances in forming two-dimensional materials, highly sensitive microwave and optical measurement techniques, artificial intelligence and quantum computing to provide new information about fundamental quantum mechanical properties of materials. It also creates and characterises novel quantum materials whose functionality can be used in electronics and photonics applications.
