Energy-Efficient Wide Field-of-View Light Field Imaging (E-WIDE-LIGHT)

Description of the granted funding

The light field (LF) formalism offers high-fidelity 3D visual scene representations, enabling advanced imaging technologies for machine interpretation and immersive visual experiences for human viewers. Addressing the needs for wide field of view (immersive) imaging, real-time processing, and fast response times in such applications presents significant challenges in both optics and computing. We propose a multidisciplinary approach to next-generation LF imaging by combining novel curved optical elements with innovative hybrid (i.e. optical + neuromorphic computing) methods for processing LF information. Our research aims to develop new computational models and methods that will lead to energy-efficient and immersive LF imaging systems and related applications with high social relevance.
