Weaving care into transitions: sustainability participation through relations of care
Description of the granted funding
The project aims to advance the achievement of a more sustainable society. It will deepen understanding of how people participate in sustainability transitions and create means that support their participation. This includes involvement in policymaking processes, actions driven by activism and everyday practices. The project stems from the recognition that sustainability transitions can have unjust effects, which fuel resistance and discourage participation. By exploring care relationships—both among people and between humans and nature—the project offers a fresh, holistic perspective on transitions aiming for the well-being of both people and the planet. Focusing on transitions in the food system and forestry, the project employs interviews with stakeholders, document analysis, and workshops. It will create a “manifesto for caring engagement” offering actionable insights for fostering inclusive sustainability transitions. The project is conducted at the Finnish Environment Institute.
