FutureNow: Novel Socio-legal Perspectives on Future Generations' Rights, Duties and Identity

Description of the granted funding

The rights and identities of future generations have risen to the forefront of legal discussions, especially as they relate to sustainable development and environmental rights. Despite this attention, additional questions have been raised about the scope of intergenerational law, legal personhood, and representation of future generations. The FutureNow project aims to participate in this discussion by conducting socio-legal research on the rights and duties and the legal identity of future generations, broadening the scope beyond the environmental questions. With research questions relating to resilience, health crises, corporate social responsibility, household debt, and children's rights, the project aims to specify the rights and duties of future generations. With this research, it is possible to define the role of future generations and intergenerational equity in present decision-making and legislative processes, ultimately promoting resilience.
