Working-class Youth and Experiences of Recognition
Description of the granted funding
The philosophy of recognition and empirical research on the experiences of recognition have developed rapidly since the beginning of the 21st century. Experiences of recognition have been found to be connected to social and political participation. This project investigates the experiences of recognition among young working-class people: how they feel recognised (or not) by politicians and the broader political structures, and how their experiences compare to those of other social groups. The project uses thematic interviews and survey data. The research is conducted at Tampere University. The research results help to better understand young people's social participation or non-participation, and the results can be used to promote young people's participation in the future.
