EISCAT_3D Suomi ja ISR-tutkajärjestelmä

Abbreviation

EISCAT_3D Suomi

Infrastructure description

The EISCAT and EISCAT_3D incoherent scatter radars measure the coupling between the space environment and atmosphere in the auroral oval and at the southern edge of the polar vortex. Located in Svalbard, Norway, Sweden and Finland, this facility is used for research INTO infra.space and plasma physics, atmospheric change due to human activities and natural causes, and the effect of space weather on navigation, communications and technological systems in the Arctic region. The radar can also be used to investigate space debris and the orbital elements of satellites, to map the lunar surface and the shape of asteroids, and to develop new radar modulations and analysis.
