Turku Centre for Chemical and Molecular Analytics

Abbreviation

CCMA

Infrastructure description

Turku Centre for Chemical and Molecular Analytics (CCMA) serves as a shared facility for the Department of Chemistry at the University of Turku and the Faculty of Science and Technology at Åbo Akademi University. The aim of the centre is to provide an analytical chemistry to the wider community in Turku and Finland. One of the core tasks is to promote the wide range of analytical techniques available in Turku and support the research groups in developing service based platforms. The core instruments consist of 5 modern NMR instruments 4 mass spectrometers, and a CD spectrometer, the CCMA is one of the best equipped educational analytical chemistry facilities in Finland.

Scientific description

The CCMA’s core strengths are in developing qualitative and quantitative assays for a wide range of small to medium sized molecules. We can employ a different NMR techniques to fully characterise both fluid, solid and semi-solid samples. The 5 NMR magnets are equipped with an array of different probes including 2 cryoprobes. All the instruments have variable temperature equipment allowing us to perform measurements from -50 to 150 degrees if needed. The CCMA also houses 4 mass spectrometers for both accurate mass and quantitative workflows. We have a Bruker MicroTOF which is a high resolution QTOF type instrument coupled to a UHPLC. For more quantitative work flows the CCMA has three triple quad (QqQ) MS instruments. The newest of these was purchases in late 2021 and is the most sensitive MS instrument currently on the market. We provide both training and expertise to the research community to assist with any analytical needs.
