Description

I am working as a postdoctoral researcher on the project “Silent agents affected by legislation: From an insufficient knowledge base to inclusive solutions”. My ongoing research is on the impact of legislation on animal welfare and how animal welfare is considered in law-making. Our research focuses in particular on the changes brought about by the new Finnish Animal Welfare Act. Through various case studies, we will examine the effects of the changes in the legislation and the experiences and views of actors on the introduction and implementation of new practices in relation to animal welfare.   My research background is in social science research on animal-human relations. My previous research has focused on attitudes towards animal welfare, perceptions of animal mind, consumer views of using animals for food, the meanings attached to meat and plant-based food in public catering, and issues related to the cultural visibility of farmed animals. In my research, I have applied perspectives from sociological animal studies.
