Objectives of the project

The aim of this study is to analyse the effects of salmon smolt stocking site and time on the return rate of adult salmon to Merikoski fishway and on the catches in the Baltic Sea by conducting a large scale PIT- and T-anchor tagging on salmon smolts (10000 smolts tagged annually).

Results and impact

Results of this study can be used in developing better release strategies of salmon smolts in the River Oulujoki and other regulated rivers. The information can be used by environment and fisheries administration, fish farming industry, hydropower companies and fishing right owners.
