Abstract
Lapland's fells and highlands feature a notable wind power potential due to special meteorological circumstances. The wind power plants for these sites must be equipped with special means against icing and low temperatures. Icing events monitored on a small test machine are described and compared with general load assumptions. Different means of ice detection and removing ice from rotor blades are presented. Low temperature and anti- icing requirements for wind power plant components and operation control are discussed.
