Abstract
In Finland, the updated wood fuel terminal models of South Savo region are a lifeline for the replacement of fossil peat and Russian wood chips. The aim of this study was to design alternative terminal models that would be suitable for joint operations. The study also conducted a survey to help design terminal models. Study sought an answer to what kind of terminal service model best serves in the future operating environment in the study region, so that the security of wood fuel supply is maintained. Both larger feed and crushing terminals near cities and smaller intermediate storage terminals near municipalities are needed. Larger terminals would operate in a centralized manner, and smaller ones would operate in a decentralized manner. Close collaboration between wood fuel operators plays a major role in the supply chain, allowing them to share operational responsibilities and develop business expertise in terms of joint terminals.
