Abstract

A ManPas manure hygienizing device was tested on the farm to investigate its suitability for hygienizing the horse manure. The device heat treats manure at 70 . by utilizing the heat generated by manure microbial decomposition. This treatment fulfils the EU manure hygiene requirements. The purpose was to test manure that have used peat-based bedding material. Samples were collected for analysis to help with the study. The purpose was to find out what happened to the heating of manure and the development of the number of bacteria. The device heated the manure to the required temperature according to time requirements and significantly reduced bacterial concentrations from the manure. The hygienized manure can be used as soil amendment or reused partly as bedding in stables and barns. Hygienizing allows for consumer sales, which transforms manure from a problem into a money-worthy end product.
