Estrogenic Regulation Of exercise Response - role of extracellular vesicles and HDL as signal carriers (ErROR)

Description of the granted funding

Menopause leads to estradiol (E2) deficiency that has been linked to impairment of skeletal muscle function leading to increased adiposity and metabolic and cardiovascular disease risks. Yet to date it is not known which route the effects of E2 are transmitted. Estrogenic Regulation Of exercise Response - role of extracellular vesicles (EV) and HDL as signal carriers (ErROR) study examines the role of systematically delivered miRs in altering metabolism during exercise after menopause. Study utilizes different models of exercise and samples from tissue and blood. Study explores does E2 alter the acute exercise associated miR-response and whether the miR-pools differ between EVs and HDL. The study will be carried out at the Gerontology Research Center, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The results of ErROR study will be translational to human health in finding new therapeutic miRs that can help in prevention of metabolic and cardiovascular diseases.
