Student selection and competence development in the continuum of preservice and in-service teacher education (SITE)

Acronym

SITE

Description of the granted funding

SITE examines how competencies measured at the student selection phase predict the competence development of prospective classroom teachers during the first three study years as well as the subsequent teaching quality at the time of teachers' transition to working life. SITE uses large-scale national student selection data, longitudinal follow-up data, and a mixed-methods research design to investigate the validity and reliability of selection methods and to determine how they predict the development of competencies both in ITE and at the beginning of the in-service phase. The proposed project will be conducted collaboratively by the University of Jyväskylä and the University of Turku. The study will have a major impact in the field of education, especially in teacher selection research, as it addresses the challenge of reliably assessing and predicting teacher students' development of competence.
