Safe Water for All
Description of the granted funding
In a changing world well-functioning water supply is not granted. Climate change, demographic changes, geopolitics and aging infrastructure create challenges to Finland´s capability to provide safe drinking water for all. WaterFall focuses on water security through resilience for water supply, from source to user. Research partners are Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare, Finnish Environment Institute, University of Oulu, University of Lapland, National Defense University and DemosHelsinki. The multidisciplinary study identifies and assesses the challenges related to drinking water through risk scenarios and addresses preventive measures to enhance comprehensive security of water supply. Waterfall will combine GIS and data analysis, field studies, contamination data and legislative documents for holistic multicriteria decision analysis. Project aims to reinforce water utilities to anticipate challenges and to make long-term decisions to secure sustainable drinking water production
