Towards Eco-Welfare State: Orchestrating for Systemic Impact (ORSI)

Description of the granted funding

ORSI studies how the Finnish welfare state could operate within planetary boundaries and move towards an eco-welfare state. We research fair and robust policy tools to steer sustainability transformation through four themes: governance and budgeting, citizens' engagement, responsible innovation, and consumer choices. We evaluate key policy tools as well as test and develop them together with households, businesses, communities, and public authorities. The tools include, e.g., public procurement, resident activity, carbon footprint calculators, and municipal strategy work. We utilize the idea of an eco-social contract to engage individuals and organisations with fair transformation and study ethical aspects of eco-welfare state. We compile research findings into concepts and recommendations for municipalities and the government as well as support the policy debate. Learn more: ecowelfare.fi.
