Germline RNA regulation, fertility and sustainable health
Description of the granted funding
The function of the germline is undeniably essential, as it allows transmission of parental information to the next generation and the continuation of life. Alarming reports on declining sperm quality and associated infertility raise an urgent need to better understand the factors affecting male fertility. Equally critical is to elucidate the mechanisms required for passing the paternal genetic and epigenetic information to the next generations. This research project aims at revealing novel important information about the processes that control the development and function of spermatozoa. Particularly we are interested in the mechanisms of RNA regulation in the male germline. Understanding these mechanisms provide essential knowledge that can be utilized in the diagnosis of male infertility and in the development of medically assisted reproduction.
