Algorithmic management in employment

Description of the granted funding

Broader use of algorithmic management (AM) in employment brings about controversial consequences. It enables to use flexible forms of work (platform work, telework) and can advance workers´ protection, but it can also significantly weaken the status and working conditions of the worker. The aim of this project is to study the role of legal regulation in these processes. Employment field is regulated by labour legislation, however, AM cannot be exercised without processing personal data. In this project both aspects are studied to understand the existing restrictions for AM in employment, to reveal gaps, and to suggest possible future regulation. The following questions are answered: How using AM influences the privacy and data protection rights of workers and how these rights restrict the use of AM?(WP1); Whether and how using AM influences the employment status of a worker?(WP 2); and How using AM influences the labour rights and working conditions of an employee?(WP 3).
