Micropneumatic strain, force and tactile sensors (MISFITS)
Description of the granted funding
This project advances the utilization of the micropneumatic strain, force, and tactile sensors developed in the IntRoFluid Academy Research Project. With no electrical components, they are safe for use in MRI machines and explosive environments. They can measure up to 300% strains and are optically transparent. The project includes two work packages: one to validate and refine the sensors and demonstrate them in three proof-of-concept applications, and another to explore commercialization through market research, IP analysis, and sustainability planning. Collaboration with MRI robotics experts at the University of Twente supports these efforts. Long-term, the goal is to make the technology available to markets where traditional strain sensors fall short, including the $51.7B pneumatic actuator market, the growing strain sensor market, and healthcare applications like MRI systems and bed monitoring.
