Biomaterial laboratory
Infrastructure description
The biomaterials laboratory is designed for the study of valuable substances in biomass. The laboratory has versatile equipment for, among other things, drying (drying oven, convection and vacuum dryers), pre-treatment and processing (lab knife mill). Valuebles ??of biomass can be separated and purified (by extraction or distillation) and analyzing quantitatively, qualitatively (GC-MS and GC-FID). Additional, other instruments for analysis are located in Centrias other labs (HPLC, HS/Py-GC-MS, CE, IC, NIR, FTIR, STA, TGA, DSC, particle size analyzer). The investigated biomass includes a wide variety of plants, fungi, berries, roots and othe raw materials and sidestreams of the food and forest industry. In addition, the biomaterials laboratory has a glass mixing reactor with a heating jacket and it is vacuum distillation ready. For the setup there are two vessel sizes of 3 & 5 liters and the reactor can be used for process optimization and scale-up from laboratory scale towards industrial scale.
