The material testing laboratory of Centria University of Applied Sciences has a diverse selection of testing and sample preparation equipment for material research. In this laboratory we can study and observe a variety of materials, their properties and quality. The material laboratory is used as needed by our experts in research and services for our costumer along side with students and their studies. Along the years many a sample has passed through our laboratory and variegation of materials have been prepared with our cutters, mounters and grinders. The samples prepared can be tested in a variety of methods to test the materials of surfaces durability and other properties. In the laboratory we utilise microscopes, including optical and electronic, to visually inspect samples and determine composition or impurities with energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). In addition to the visual examination a selection of durability tests can be performed to determine for example tensile strength, hardness, roughness and durability of coatings. Combining these sample preparation and test methods with different distress methods (environmental influence, climet chambers, chemical exposure etc.) materials durability can be assessed comprehensively in our material testing laboratory.
