Abstract
Traditional approaches to understanding Adventure Psychology have focused on the person undertaking the adventure: often with a focus on danger or risk. An Ecological Dynamics approach with its focus on the individual–environment relationship suggests a very different understanding of Adventure Psychology and the role of Adventure Psychology in everyday life. This chapter examines more closely what an Ecological Dynamics perspective can bring to the adventure conversation and how this perspective impacts our understanding of adventure. Adventure is fundamental to human life and Adventure Psychology helps us better understand the human condition. From an Ecological Dynamics perspective, adventure is best described as an experience stemming from the human–environment–activity relationship.
