Abstract
The publication addresses the development
and sustainable implementation of digitization.
It provides an overview of digitization
processes, quality control, risks, sustainability,
and the application of Artificial Intelligence
(AI) based methods, particularly from
the perspective of mass digitization. The
articles in the publication are authored by
experts from the National Archives of Finland,
the National Library of Finland, and the
South-Eastern Finland University of Applied
Sciences (Xamk).
The publication is based on the Digitization
Developer training from the Flexible Education
and Career Paths for Future Digitization
Experts (JoDi) project. The training was carried
out in collaboration between the National
Archives of Finland and the South-Eastern
Finland University of Applied Sciences (Xamk).
Previously, there was no unified or permanent
digitization training available in Finland. To
meet this need, Xamk and its partners developed
digitization training oriented towards
working life in RDI projects. The training was
then used to train digitization experts and
specialists. A total of 145 people participated
in the training between 2020 and 2025.
The training also identified the need for networking
and sharing experiences. As a result,
a digitization competence network was
established in the JoDi project in autumn
2024. The network operates on the Finnish
Skillhive collaboration platform and is open
to everyone interested in digitization.
